Sunfish Pools offers start-to-finish design and construction for custom pools and complete outdoor spaces. As a husband-and-wife design-and-build team, Crystal and Jake can work through the design and construction details together, carrying the original vision into the finished project. If you already have plans purchased or prepared with your home architect, we can build from those, too.

Our work includes pools, outdoor kitchens, sport courts, landscaping, pool houses, and related outdoor living features. Our sister company, First Choice Custom Builders, builds custom homes, and the same experienced construction team can coordinate the many parts of a project.

Yes. We design and build equine hydrotherapy pools, spas, and water walkers. Jake has designed and engineered filtration and water distribution systems tailored to the success of operating an equine facility. The Hettingers’ hands-on background with horses ensures they consider an equine facility's size, layout, filtration, and safety needs.

An equine pool has demands that a general residential pool builder may not anticipate. Our specialized experience has led to referrals in the equine industry, and we are unfortunately often called to consult on installations by other general pool builders when a completed pool isn’t working as intended for equine athletes.

Our headquarters are located at 125 E. Archer Street, on the square, in Jacksboro, Texas. Our residential projects have served Jack, Wise, Montague, Wichita, Parker, Archer, and Young counties! For equine projects, we have traveled across Texas and to Florida, Kentucky, and Colorado. Call or text Jake at 940-366-5805 to talk about your project location.

Jake and Crystal Hettinger own Sunfish Pools. They have worked in design and construction since 2008, building experience through hands-on projects under the same business name. Crystal brings an award-winning design eye, while Jake is an accomplished builder who has the remarkable ability to engineer solutions that make even the most ambitious concepts a reality. Their design and construction projects have earned numerous awards, including an international gold medal for design.

Jake also owns and operates First Choice Custom Builders and holds the Certified Master Builder designation, a title given to those with a proven and clean work history and held to the highest standards in Texas Construction. Their shared design and construction experience helps them carry a concept through to the finished build.

With AI on the rise, you need to look beyond polished or AI-generated social media images. Ask to see finished projects the company built, speak with customers outside the builder’s circle of friends and family, and find out who will personally design and supervise your pool. Research how long the builder has worked under its current company name, the hands-on experience of the direct hired builder, and look for whether there have been past bankruptcies or business closures. Verify the insurance and any credentials appropriate to the work.

A substantially cheaper bid deserves a closer look: missing coverage, materials, or construction steps can become expensive later. Jake and Crystal have worked in construction since 2008 under the same business name, and they welcome questions about their experience, completed projects, and process. Just choose Sunfish Pools and you can’t go wrong!
